Intro to “Tackling My Backlog”

One lifelong gamer's quest to finally play through all of those games that he's purchased

Hello. My online persona is “Ryuuga Hideki” and I have a problem… I have bought way too many video games, making my backlog truly frightening.

They say the first step to recovery is admitting that you have a problem and, well, with some 500 games in my Steam library alone – never mind my ever-growing handheld and console collection – I have come to accept that I have way more games than I can reasonably play in the near future.

I know, I know, “first-world problems” and all. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s disheartening to look at all of my untouched games not knowing when I will even get around to playing some of them, let alone if they will ever be beaten. However, I have a plan to systematically tackle at least some of my backlog – and maybe even provide some entertainment and encourage someone to tackle their own.

I Love it When a Plan Comes Together

My plan is simple – set aside an hour each week to start up a game that I haven’t played yet. Then, based on that first impression I will grade it on a scale of 1-5 of how eager I am to keep playing or to even finish it. As an added bonus (or “bonus,” depending on how much you hate my writing style) I’m going to chronicle my backlog adventures here.

My goal is a once-a-week article. However, I don’t yet have a particular list of which games I’m going to play, let alone in what order. To start I’ll just see what genre I feel like playing that week and then go from there. If anyone even reads my articles I may even have a vote at the end for you all to choose my fate. Who knows, I may even find a gem or two hidden in my backlog that I would have never touched otherwise. (Amazing how some of those dirt-cheap game bundles can have that.)

So stay tuned for this Wednesday, if you’d like, for the first real article in my series:
