PlayStation Portable Losing Store Access March 31st
The current Flash Sale, offering a good amount of PlayStation Portable (PSP) original and compatible PlayStation games, is a good chance to remind people that they only have a little over a week to access the store from their PSP device. Sony announced late last year that it would be shuttering PlayStation Portable (PSP) support for its PlayStation Store at the end of March. The PS Store will still sell PSP games which users will have to purchase from Sony’s website (or conceivably the PS Store via a more current Sony game system), and PSP users will still be able to access their PSP purchases via their download lists.
Interestingly, with just a little over a week to go before the closure, Sony has yet to rely this news on the PSP itself, either directly on the Information Board or via s prompt when accessing the PS Store on a PSP device. Sony has also not stated any reason why it needs to close off access to the PS Store for PSP users. Launched in 2004, the PSP has been effectively dead for some time now and has since been replaced by the four-year-old PS Vita, which can play all PSP content along with its own software.

I don’t even see a reason why they need to shut down the PSP Store. Unless they are actually planning to focus on the Vita more, but this is Sony we are talking about…

Have to agree, it feels like there is no necessary reason to shut it down.

Yeah, I didn’t want to start speculating on why, and, really, I can’t even think of a reason why Sony would shut it down. Doesn’t impact me too much because it’s far more convenient to not use the PS Store on a PSP since downloading over a PSP is terrible, but it still doesn’t make me feel particularly good that Sony’s doing something like this.
